Jamboree 2010

Little Valley Jamboree Entertainment Line Up

June 19 and 20 2010

Please note – bands may not necessarily appear in this order

Saturday Entertainment

Better Phan

Better Phan consists of six local hometown Onanole Musicians. Members are Rick Waterman, Ken Surovy, Dave Porter, Troy Fleming, Devin Foord and Perry Peters.

They will play you some rock and roll and blues tunes. Better Phan play a lot of community events and fundraisers and often share the spotlight at community events with the Smokey Hollow Band. This is their first visit to the Jamboree and we know you will enjoy their music.

http://www.mts.net/~rnord/images/swamp.gifSwamp Gas is a Neepawa, Manitoba based band formed in 2003. They play acoustic folk, Irish, and East Coast music. Their playlist consists of toe tapping traditional tunes, old familiar sing-a-long favorites, and contemporary numbers full of lively energy.

Tired of playing in their own basements and living rooms to various household pets, they decided to go public in 2003. Although their live shows lack the harmonies provided by Lorne's dog singing along to the harmonica, they invite audience participation to round out their sound.

(This article about Swamp Gas is from their website. Please check out the site for more information about the band members.

The Chris Barker Band

The Chris Barker band comes to us from Dauphin. The following bio is from their website “The Chris Barker Band”. Please check it out for pictures, videos and more information about the band.

C:\Users\Evelyn\Pictures\Chris Barker Band.jpgThe Chris Barker Band is truly a family affair. Patriarch, manager and guitar player Clifford Flett has passed on his life long love of playing guitar and music to his sons and nephews who comprise the band. Formed 4 years ago out of household jam sessions, the players are Chris Flett lead guitar, Clifton Flett, lead vocals, guitar, front man and primary song writer, Curtis Flett drums and vocals and Waylon Lafreniere bass and vocals. In case you thought you missed something, the band line up is slightly confusing. There are 4 Fletts in the band, 2 of them Cliffs, one a Chris. However there is no Chris Barker in the band. The band name is a combination of Clifford's son, guitarist Chris and his grandmother Lizzie Barker chosen as a tribute to her support and inspiration, which remains influential to this day. The CBB break out a rock tempo guaranteed to get everyone on their feet jiving. All the while never straying far from the smooth country rock feel and the arrangements stick to their guitar based instrumentation. Guitarist Chris Flett really lets his fingers loose and rocks out with a tasty Jimmy Page inspired solo on "Rock and Roll Getaway" and Lead singer Clifton Flett gets his spotlight on lead guitar with his own Jimmy inspired solo on "If I Had a Dollar". Lead singer Clifton Flett's voice has a pleasant, understated country twang with just enough range and unfussy emotion to serve the lyrics intent. As principal song writer, his topics cover familiar territory for country rock; life on the road, guitars, lost youth, relationships and missing home. To Clifton's writing credit there is none of the over the top sentimentality, emotionalism, angst or patriotism popular with American country artists. Clifton's self reliant attitude is perfectly summed up in "The County Side" where he admonishes "get that tear outta your beer right now." The CBB has learned a lot about taking their influences in country and rock and coming up with a style of their own. That they love to play clearly comes across in their CD Six String Highway which smartly positions itself to be enjoyed by a broad audience.

Brett Monka

Brett is a young country singer from Neepawa. In 2008 he won the CMT Karioka Star Contest in Winnipeg. To learn more about him and check out his videos “Brett Monka” will get his website up for you.

Elvis

Elvis (a.k.a. Dave Green from Moosehorn, MB), will be back on our stage this year so Elvis fans get your blue suede shoes on. Elvis has been a great supporter of children all his life beginning when he was very young and found himself helping out a young friend with problems. This past winter he has been singing the famous Elvis song “In the Ghetto” and collecting money for our kids. Thank you Elvis!!

Don't miss his show, it will be a good one.

Lori Larsen

Local Erickson singer will be back on stage. Lori helps us out by filling in for us between breaks, and we appreciate her being there for us. We know you enjoy her singing.

Live Auction

Our live auction has proven over the last couple of years to be a popular event. This year our Auctioneer will be Lyle Watson, standing in for Terry Woyshyshyn as he cannot be there. So make sure you have your bidding arm in good shape as Lyle takes your money for our Kids.

The Kinosota Band

The Kinosota Band made up of Michael Campbell, Sandy Campbell, Garry Mousseau and Norm Shorting Frank Desjarlais, Fiddler will be taking the stage following the auction for a good old country dance. This group of talented musicians will thrill you

and get your toes tapping like never before. They will give you waltz's, polkas, and lots of two stepping, jigging and everything in between.

Some of the LVJ committee have been listening and dancing to this band at the Asham Stomper's Festival for a number of years and are really pleased to bring to the Jamboree stage. Most recently in April two of our committee members Rod and Grant were honoured to perform with this group and many others at the Alonsa Hotel which is run by a former Onanole gentleman, Randy and his wife Marcie Halliday.

Sunday Entertainment

The Cookshack Shakers

The first group to take the stage on Sunday is a group of friends and followers of the Jamboree who get together in the campground and jam a few days before the weekend. Last year they took the stage and are so excited to perform for you again this year. Last year's band members were, John Spaller, Lorne July 2009- Jamboree 244.jpg
MacNarland, Grant Carter, Dave McArthur and Rod Lewandoski. This year some new members will be joining, Phil Wilkes and friend. They will entertain you with some oldies but goodies and the odd newer one thrown in also and get your toes a tapping and warmed up for the day.

George and Ray, Family and Friends

George Anderson is no stranger to the Jamboree stage. He sings to us in that wonderful soothing voice, mostly songs he has written himself. He will be accompanied by Ray Chuka once again and we all remember Ray's fiddle playing from other years.

Jerry and Laura Anderson and sister Cindy will be doing some fancy stepping and jigging for you again this year. Jerry and Laura are former members of the Asham Stompers and now have branched out and Jerry tells us he is teaching young children to dance. Unfortunately he does not have enough time to teach my sister and I, (maybe my sister).

July 2009- Jamboree 024.jpg

You will remember George's granddaughters doing some jigging and stepping for you. We were happy to hear that they had joined a group of dancers this past year and they are all coming to dance for us. They are called the Eldon Steppers.

So be prepared to enjoy some wonderful music, singing and dancing from this incredible group of talented people.

Cooked and Done and the Road Crew

These two great guys George and Russ are back and we are grateful. They and their crew are members of our committee and help us all year long in preparing and planning the Jamboree. Some members even cook breakfast for our committee.

The Jamboree Special Children's very own angel will be back to sing for you, her 26 cent song and has been doing so all year. She will once again have a surprise for our beneficiaries Arwen and Phoenix.

So put your hands together for this group and show your appreciation.

The Smokey Hollow Boys

Yes, Isabelle and Walter Holt from Neepawa and Bruce Wareham from Newdale, the Smokey Hollow Band is back for their 13 th year just like the Jamboree. These guys were good 13 years ago and they are even better today. Grant, Cam, Geordie, Barry and Dennis will have you up and jiving on the dance floor. They are a great bunch of guys who do lots of fundraising for community events in Onanole and Erickson and are loved by all. Sandy Lake loves them, Alonsa loves them and everywhere else they have played. But no one loves them more than the Jamboree fans. Please let them know how you feel when they are stage.

Scott Cornelius

Scott is a 12 year old fiddle player from the Roblin area. He has been playing fiddle for 4 years now and after hearing of his amazing talent for quite some time we were finally able to listen and watch his show in Russell when he performed for Jon Montgomery. He has won many awards and will go on to be one of the great fiddle players of Manitoba. You will absolutely love him. He is true showman who will have you on that dance floor from the moment he strikes his bow. We are so pleased to bring this fantastic young fiddle player to the JamboreeIMG_0161.JPG

Patti Lamoureux

Often referred to as one the smoothest fiddle players in North America,
Patti is known for her effortless delivery of some of the best traditional Canadian
fiddle music of all time.

A recording artist, Patti is in high demand for performances, teaching, recording, and judging fiddle contests across the continent.

At the age of four, Patti began to learn playing the fiddle, and has a resume that reads like that of an Olympic champion.

A few to her credit includes the Canadian Junior Champion (1985), 3-time Champion at the famous Pembroke, ON competition, 6 time Manitoba Champion, 3 time Grand North American Champion, and in 1994, 1995 and again in 1996, Patti won the prestigious Canadian Grand Masters Fiddling Championship in Ottawa, ON. Patti was the first woman in the history of Canada to ever win and was the very first person from Western Canada to attain the crown.

Patti has been featured on several other projects throughout her career:

Featured on sound track for the Canadian movie production of Spirit Rider

Featured on sound track for the Canadian movie production of Children of My Heart

Inaugural telecast of the Canadian Aboriginal Achievement Awards in 1997

Multi award winner Manitoba Association of Country Arts

Recorded on many independent Canadian recordings

Patti is a regular performer and instructor at music camps and festivals across North America and is one of only a handful of Canadian musicians that has been asked to judge the renowned U.S. Grand National Fiddle Championship in Weiser, Idaho.

Patti's latest accomplishment has been her induction in April 2010 onto the
Manitoba Fiddle Association Wall of Fame in Carman, Manitoba. Her plaque sits
alongside her Manitoba fiddle heroes Andy DeJarlis, Reg Bouvette, Grant Lamb, and Clifford
Maytwayashing, just to name a few, and Patti is also the youngest ever to be inducted.

Patti is known across the country in the fiddle music world and with her humble demeanour and personable stage presence allows the audience to soak in the music and connect with her in a special way. Patti has a razor sharp wit and when she starts playing her fiddle the musical spirits instantly come alive in whatever room she's playing!
